Wheatland tops host Humansville to win tournament title

Wheatland beat host and conference rival Humansville to win the Humansville Tournament championship. Dadeville (third place), Niangua (consolation) and Halfway (seventh place) all won on Saturday as well.

CHAMPIONSHIP: Wheatland 43, Humansville 32

Wheatland started fast in the championship game against host Humansville and didn’t look back taking leads of 12-5 after one quarter and 21-12 at the half. Humansville cut the lead by on in the third quarter to 28-20.

Davin Sawyer and Andrew Murphy each scored 14 points to lead Wheatland with Bodee Fielder scoring 13 points. The trio scored all but two of Wheatland’s points in the game.

Humansville was led by 12 points from Kode White and 11 points from Tucker Ahlers.

THIRD PLACE: Dadeville 46, Hermitage 44

Luke Bushey put Dadeville on his back in the fourth quarter on the way to the Bearcats’ 46-44 win over Hermitage in the third place game. Bushey scored 11 of his game-high 21 points in the final frame including going three-for-three from the line.

Dadeville and Hermitage were close throughout the game. Hermitage led 14-12 after the first quarter and 21-20 at the half. The Bearcats used a 10-6 advantage in the third quarter to take a 30-27 lead after three quarters.

Aidan Jarman scored nine points for Dadeville to finish second in scoring for the Bearcats.

Justus Yates led Hermitage with 16 points. Justin Horn and Cash Turner each scored 11 points each for the Hornets.

CONSOLATION: Niangua 70, Fair Play 57

Ethan Scheetz went off for 34 points to lead Niangua past Fair Play in the consolation game. Scheetz did his most damage in the pivotal second quarter. Niangua and Fair Play were tied at 12 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Scheetz poured in 15 points leading Niangua to a 21-12 advantage in the frame.

Brayden Johnston also scored in double figures for Niangua with 15 points.

Aron Khadyrke and Andrew Mettler scored 51 of Fair Play’s 57 points. Khadyrke had 29 points including six 3-pointers. Mettler also knocked down six 3-pointers on his way to a 22-point night.

The duo scored all of Fair Play’s 23 third-quarter points. Fair Play cut Niangua’s lead to three at 50-47 at the end of that frame, but the Cardinals were able to put the game away with a 20-10 advantage in the final frame. Johnston had eight of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

SEVENTH PLACE: Halfway 70, Everton 34

Halfway was dominant from the start in the seventh place game scoring 26 points in the first quarter and 28 in the second quarter to take a 54-24 lead into halftime.

Zach Laney and Maddox McCarthy led Halfway and all scorers with 19 points each. Grayson Gallivan had 13 points to give Halfway a third player in double figures.

Everton was led by Noah Shearer with eight points.
