Norwood wins Dennis Cornish Classic title over Seneca

CHAMPIONSHIP: Norwood 51, Seneca 48

The defending Class 2 state champion Norwood Pirates have another trophy coming home after beating Seneca 51-48 to win the Dennis Cornish Classic on Saturday.

Norwood led 14-8 after one quarter and 25-18 at the half. Seneca cut the lead in the third quarter to 37-34 with a 16-12 advantage in the frame. Norwood matched Seneca in the final frame at 14-14 to hold on for the title.

Peyton McDaris scored 20 points to lead the Pirates. Cooper Vaughan was just behind him with 17 points.

Cooper Long paced Seneca with 15 points. Morgan Vaughn was also in double figures with 10 points.

THIRD PLACE: Neosho JV 49, Rich Hill 47

Neosho JV held off Rich Hill in the fourth quarter to claim third place. The Wildcats led 23-15 at the half and 35-28 after the third quarter. Rich Hill outscored Neosho 19-14 in the final frame, but it would not be enough.

CONSOLATION: Lockwood 51, Osceola 28

Lockwood used big second and fourth quarters to claim the consolation title of its home tournament on Saturday. The Tigers led 9-8 after one quarter. They used an 11-3 advantage in the second quarter to take a 20-11 lead at half. Osceola kept pace with Lockwood in the third quarter with the Tigers taking a 10-9 advantage in the frame. Lockwood put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 21-8 advantage.

Nik Thieman scored 16 points to lead Lockwood with Eli Kerr just behind him at 14 points.

Dyson Barker and Preston Listerud each scored nine points for Osceola.

SEVENTH PLACE: Golden City 62, Jasper 43

Golden City jumped out to a 21-5 lead on Jasper after one quarter on the way to a dominant 63-43 seventh place game win over the Eagles.

Josh Reeves had a huge game for Golden City with 28 points to pace the Eagles. Ty Force also scored in double figures with 11 points.

Wyatt Durman led Jasper with 14 points.
