Veteran coach Wayne Jessen takes over as head coach of a Norwood girls basketball team coming off a 2-19 season. Jessen has won 350 games over 20 years as a head coach.

He inherits a team that returns three starters.

Cassie Wright is the lone returning senior for Norwood. She averaged four points and three rebounds per game last year.

Juniors Loran Mooney and Hailey Hall also return. Mooney is the team’s leading returning scorer. She averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds per game last year. Hall averaged three points and four rebounds per game.

Sophomore Autumn Gunter rounds out the returning players. She saw action in 11 games last year averaging eight points and six rebounds per game.

A trio of freshmen in Gentry Davault, Jayden Chambers and Addy Gray will look to make an immediate impact on the varsity level.

“I’m encouraged by the mix of upper and lower classmen we have,” Jessen said. “If we gel the possibility of success will be strong.”

Norwood opens the season on Nov. 28 at Summersville.
