Conway boys basketball has a new head coach in Craig Campbell. Campbell is looking to turn around a program that hasn’t finished above .500 since 2017-18. The Bears finished 5-22 overall last year.

Campbell will installing a new look this year.

“I am looking at changing the style of play the boys are used to playing, which in turn has a learning curve,” Campbell said. “All of them that have consistently come to off-season workouts and preseason practices are showing large improvements. The sooner the guys are able to adapt to the style of play and to the higher level of competition, the better we will be.”

Seniors Caleb Graves, Seth Foreman and Brandon Wehner along with juniors Isaac Freeman, Cade Archer and Tyler Vaughan will be looked to for leadership this year.

Archer and Freeman bring back the most varsity experience.

“Cade Archer and Isaac Freeman have the most varsity experience returning from last year, all of them will be looking at stepping their game up and improving,” Campbell said. “Isaac is a very good point guard that sees the floor well, and also plays extremely hard on defense. Cade can score at all three levels and has a knack of finding the ball.”

Archer averaged 5.2 points and 2 rebounds per game last year. Freeman scored 3.1 points with 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game as a sophomore.

Junior Brady Rogers and sophomore Brixon Bilyeu are two more players looking to contribute on varsity.

Conway opens the season on Nov. 22 at home against Sparta.

Campbell hopes his team’s identity this year will be a team with a “fast-paced, hard-nosed tough defense, that wants to run their opponent out of the gym every night.”
