McDonald County volleyball will look to bounce back from a seven-win 2021 behind a group of four returning upperclassmen.

Those four returning players are: Megan Elwood (senior outside hitter), Madi Parker (senior outside hitter), Hay Nay Way (senior libero) and Savannah Leib (junior middle hitter).

Elwood earned second-team all-conference honors last season.

“Elwood is a leader on and off the court for our program,” McDonald County head coach Logan Grab said. “She is a six-rotation player for us and is known for being one of the hardest workers on the court.”

Parker also brings leadership to the team.

“Parker is also a leader for our program on and off the court,” Grab said. “She is an outstanding teammate with a strong work ethic.”

Way keys the defense.

“Way is a strong defensive player and asset to our team,” Grab said.

Leib has taken big steps forward with her game since last year.

“Leib has experienced a vast amount of growth since last season and is starting to build consistency with her gameplay,” Grab said.

Juniors Jayden Forcum (setter), River Killion (outside hitter) and Yarecci Quintero (defensive specialist) are newcomers to the varsity roster.

Grab also expects freshmen Carlie Martin (outside hitter) and Kayana Fields (middle hitter) to contribute on varsity.

“We have a gritty group of athletes who love to compete and have a passion for the sport of volleyball. That coupled with their intentional efforts throughout the summer to improve their skill sets is the biggest strength of the team this year,” Grab said. “In order to achieve success, we must continue improving our serve-receive and defense. This has been and will continue to be a focus of ours.”
