As a sophomore, Edgeman became the first golfer in Marshfield history to win a state title, and with that win came an invitation.

“When an individual wins state, they obviously get this invitation to go play at this Pinehurst national tournament,” Marshfield golf coach Cheratin Hunter said.

Pinehurst, North Carolina. Home to many professional tournaments, and the week of June 23-29, the famous resort is home to the National High School Invitational, where Marlee will compete for a national title.

“I think it’s really cool. I don’t really know how to explain it I’m very thankful that I’m here today in Pinehurst,” said Marshfield junior Marlee Edgeman.

Edgeman is one of more than 220 girls in the tournament, but she may have an advantage.

“I’ve played here before, a couple of years ago so I just went through my notes from a couple years ago,” she said.

She also has something that gives her an edge on every course.

“She has a very, very tough mentality and that’s only gotten stronger,” said Hunter.

Notes, and a good mentality are all good things as she takes on a three-day, 54-hole tournament against the best in the nation.

“She’s an awesome one and no better person to represent Marshfield than her for us so I’m very very proud of her,” added Hunter.
