The summer months serve as an offseason for a lot of sports and a time for teams and players to get better.

That’s the mindset of Glendale football as they travel the nation working on their passing offense and team chemistry.

“The biggest thing is you want to keep them healthy, give them an opportunity to compete and get better,” Glendale football coach Mike Mauk said.

That is the Falcons’ focus for the summer as they work on their passing offense at 7-on-7 tournaments.

“Since we run five wide 7-on-7 is like practice for us,” said Glendale quarterback Cole Feuerbacher.

This summer they’re getting a lot of practice all over the country.

“Went to Nebraska then Tennessee then Arkansas. We just continue to do them, and we have a lot of fun,” Feuerbacher added.

Glendale placed second in Nebraska and won the Route 66 tournament in Springfield, but the summer is about more than trophies for the teams returning starting quarterback.

“This summer is really good for him (Feuerbacher) just to take another step forward in his progression as our leader. The guy has to make our offense go,” Mauk said.

Last Year, Feuerbacher threw for more than 3,000-yards and had 35 Touchdowns.

However, Glendale’s top three wide receivers graduated.

“We lost Carter Harrell, Chris Floyd and Derek Horton,” the QB said.

So, as Feuerbacher enters his senior season his focus is on rebuilding chemistry with a new group of receivers.

“For me, it is working with these guys, timing, rhythm, and just knowing what we’re going to do and that’s probably the biggest thing,” Feuerbacher said.

“We’ve got some really good young wide receivers coming, they’re working hard, they’re improving, they’re getting better. Having a quarterback that has a little bit of experience really helps,” added Mauk.
