The past couple of years Zaide Lowery has been a human highlight reel on the basketball court, as a key player for the Kickapoo Chiefs.

However, as Lowery enters his senior year, he is choosing to take his talents out of the high school game and to the prep level as he will be transferring to La Lumiere in Indiana.

“Really just me and my mom decided that we were going to take a different trip to La Lumiere and go the prep school way,” he said.

Lowery says prep school wasn’t always in the plans, but when the opportunity arose, he couldn’t pass it up.

“It’s something that just came up in the moment. Some of the people that I’ve seen play there and especially the competition level that they play against like IMG Academy, Sunrise Christian, and all those other schools,” added Lowery.

With the move, he will no longer be playing in the Tournament of Champions, but he has other tournaments in mind.

“It’s exciting, the Geico Nationals is one of the biggest tournaments and they’ve been to it 10 out of 11 years so that’s something I’m looking forward to,” said Lowery.

He believes this move gets him ready for the next level, as he prepares to play college basketball at Marquette.

“Really just the coaches and our relationship we’ve built up and to this point,” he said about joining the Golden Eagles.

His decision to go to La Lumiere is part of a bigger plan, as the school has produced NBA talents like Golden State’s Jordan Poole, the Grizzlies’ Jaren Jackson Jr., and top college players like UCLA great Tyger Campbell.

“Just to make it to the NBA, that’s something I have to work hard for to make it to that point,” Lowery said.

Earlier this year, the 6’4” senior also planned on playing football at Kickapoo in the fall but says his career on the gridiron is over and he’ll focus solely on basketball.
