Class 4 State Track Recap

The area had a big two days at the Class 4 state track meet with 81 total all-state finishes, seven state titles and two team trophies.

West Plains brought home both of those team trophies and 18 of the all-state honors. Both the boys and girls finished second place in the Class 4 team standings.

Depth ruled the day for both teams, as West Plains won only one individual state title. That title was won with authority, as senior Dagen Kenslow threw the javelin a new meet record 194’8. He unleashed that monster throw on his first attempt of the competition. It is No. 29 throw in the nation according the MileSplit.

Sprinter Heston Miller earned four all-state honors taking second in the 100 and fifth in the 200 while running legs on West Plains’ all-state 4×200 relay (second) and 4×100 relay (fourth place). Joshua Leazer was also on those relays and finished second in the triple jump for three all-state finishes.

Aiden Brigman and Blake Tinsley were the other two legs on the 4×100 while Connor Lair and Jason Lopez ran with Miller and Leazer on the 4×100. Brigman took fourth in the high jump while teammate Steven Zuchowski took seventh in the same event.

On the girls’ side, West Plains had no state champions but 10 all-state finishes. The Lady Zizzers were led by three state runner-up performances in the 1600 (Jordan Kantola), 800 (Brayden Kantola) and the 3200-meter relay (Jayna Gunter, Jordan Kantola, Brayden Kantola, Addison Sanders). Jordan Kantola added a third all-state honors by taking fourth in the 3200.

West Plains’ 4×200 relay (Yasmine Brashers, Katie Bowers, Raigan King, Laura Dixon) and 4×100 relay (Emily Howell, Bowers, King, Dixon) each finished third. Dixon took eighth in the 200 individually for a third all-state honor.

Jayna Gunter was fifth in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600. Kaylea Dixon (sixth in the triple jump) rounded out the scoring for West Plains.

Marshfield’s Peyton McBride went two-for-two in the horizontal jumps winning the long jump (23’5.5) and triple jump (46.7.25). He made it four all-state accolades running legs on Marshfield’s 4×200 (fifth) and 4×100 (sixth).

Camdenton’s Angel Dickerson finished no worse than fourth for his four all-state medals. Dickerson won the 200-meter dash (21.20), finished second in the long jump and took fourth in the 100-meter dash. He also ran a leg on Camdenton’s state runner-up 4×100 relay.

Ethan Crouch took sixth in the discus on Friday, but left no doubt in the shot put on Saturday morning. Crouch unleashed six total throws in the event. All six were good enough to win it. Five of the throws went over 60-feet. The sixth and final throw set the standard at 61’7.75.

Webb City’s Grayson Smith was similarly dominant in the pole vault on Friday. He didn’t make his first jump until there were just two other vaulters left at 13’11. He went on to win the meet with a vault of 15’5.75. Runner-up in the event cleared 13’11.

Willard’s Thomas Shuster was strong in the distance events earning all-state honors in the 800 (second), 1600 (fourth) and running a leg on Willard’s fifth-place finishing 4×800 relay. Marshfield’s Bryant Bull was the area’s final male athlete to earn three all-state honors running legs on both of Marshfield’s all-state relays while finishing sixth in the long jump.

Rolla’s Reagan Reedy was the lone Class 4 girls state champion. Reedy won the javelin on Friday, but it was not easy. The track events were running behind, which forced Reedy to miss the entire preliminary round. She had to come from the track out to the javelin throwing area and complete all three of her throws.

After a short warm-up, her first throw went to the top of the leaderboard with a throw of 131’0. Her fifth throw of the competition went 135’6 to win the event.

Carl Junction’s Alanza Montez earned runner-up honors in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Bolivar’s Dailynn VanDeren brought home two all-state finishes taking second in the shot put and third in the discus.

Rolla’s Abby Hobbs was the area’s final top two finisher taking second in the pole vault.
