Osborne sends Jasper to Class 1 state title game with 14-strikeout gem

Jasper sophomore Grace Osborne was almost un-hittable in the Eagles’ 3-0 win over Holcomb in the Class 1 state softball semifinal.

Osborne struck on 14 allowing just one hit to lead Jasper past Holcomb 3-0.

Jasper got its first run, which would prove to be the winning run, in the bottom of the third. Julia Case reached on a walk to start the inning. Track state champion Crystal Smith came in to run for Case. Smith came around to score to give Jasper a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for insurance to get the score out to 3-0.

Osborne came into the state tournament with 175 strikeouts across 119 innings. Holcomb could not figure her out over her seven innings and 116 pitches.

Conversely, Jasper’s offensive approach was strong with just three strikeouts in the game.

Jasper advances to face Wellington-Napoleon in the Class 1 state championship on Tuesday at noon.
