The area brought home 61 all-state finishes from the Class 2 State Track meet this weekend including seven state championships.

New Covenant’s Tanner Talley was the star of the meet. He started things off anchoring the New Covenant 3200-meter relay team to a second-place finish on Friday. Friday afternoon, Talley obliterated the Class 2 3200-meter record running a 9:15.11. It lowered the old record of 9:26.55 set in 2000.

On Saturday, it was more of the same for Talley. He opened up running a 4:12.27 in the 1600-meter run to break the old record of 4:15.07 set by College Heights’ Caleb Hoover in 2009. The University of Kansas signee closed out his high school career by running a 1:54.78 to tie the meet record set in 2013.

New Covenant finished tied for fourth as a team with 38 points. Talley individually accounted for 30 of those points while anchoring the 3200-meter relay team to the other eight.

Plato’s David Held was the runner-up to Talley in both the 800 and 1600 while he finished third in the 3200 to claim three all-state finishes. Plato finished seventh as a team with 29 points.

Osceola’s Uriah Williamson closed out day one of competition on Friday with a state championship in the pole vault with a vault of 13’0.75.

Addison Lawrence had a big meet on the girls’ side. The College Heights star won the open 400 with a time of 58.97. She ran a leg on the Cougars’ state championship 4×400 relay team for a second gold medal. Lawrence made it four all-state finishes running a leg on the state runner-up 4×200 relay and finishing fourth individually in the 200.

Julianna Torbett was the area’s final state champion winning the long jump on Friday. She came into the meet as the No. 5 seed, but her second jump of 17’4.75 proved to be enough to win the Class 2 state title in the long jump. She earned a second all-state honor on Ash Grove’s eighth-place finishing 4×400 relay.

Her final three all-state finishes came on relays with Blue Eye finishing sixth in the 4×100 and eighth in both the 4×800 and 4×400.

Warren won two individual all-state honors finishing second in the 200 (26.31) and third in the 100 (12.73). She ran legs on the 4×100 (sixth) and 4×400 (eighth) to claim her other two all-state medals.

Spokane’s Lily Hunsucker found her way to the podium three times over the two days finishing fifth individually in the 1600 while running legs on Spokane’s 3200-meter relay (third) and 1600-meter relay (5th).

College Heights missed making the podium as a team by one point finishing fifth place with 33 total points. Blue Eye was seventh with 27 points.
