Two of the top Class 4 jumpers in the state just so happen to be on the same team, and they also share the same last name.

Marshfield’s Peyton McBride grew up a baseball player, that is until 7th grade.

“I kind of got talked into doing track. One day at practice one of my buddies was triple jumping and I didn’t know what that was, and he was like ‘you should come try it you’ll probably be pretty good at it,’” senior jumper Peyton McBride said.

Turns out he is pretty good at it.

“He normally PR’s every day we go out. We normally jump one, and if he doesn’t like the first one then the second one is a PR,” Marshfield jumping coach Sara Bull said.

Peyton owns the school record in the long jump and set the school record in the triple jump as a freshman.

“It’s three jumps, so a lot of people have a first phase and the last phase. It’s that second phase that makes you a great jumper,” Bull added.

Peyton soars in his second phase, and so does his sister, Abby.

“She’s got an outstanding first phase and an outstanding last phase, but what she’s really improved on is that second phase,” said Bull.

Abby takes after her older brother. They’re both top three in the state in the triple jump and top ten in the long jump.

“It just makes me want to be the same as him honestly. If he‘s winning triple jump I want to win triple jump also. It’s very competitive and he’s a really good coach,” said sophomore jumper Abby McBride.

That competitive fire fuels the McBride’s as they prepare for their last jumps together.

“The last run together and like it’s been this way for our whole lives. Being in the gym together, working out together and now it’s just going to be completely different,” said Peyton.
