State Golf Day 1 Recap

State golf got underway across the state on Monday. Find a recap of how the area’s golfers are doing below.

Class 5

Joplin’s Harry Satterlee is the lone area golfer in the top 25 in Class 5 in 14th place after day one. He shot a 75 (+3). The leader is Rockhurst’s William King who shot 69 (-3) to lead the field.

Class 4

Bolivar’s Aiden Asby is lone atop the Class 4 leaderboard with a first round total of 73 (+1). He had four birdies on the day.

Rolla’s Jonathan Jordan is tied for fifth at +3. Teammate Nicholas Jones is tied for 20th at +7. Those two have helped buoy Rolla to first place in the team standings with a total of 321 (+33). The Bulldogs have a four-stroke lead on second place.

Hillcrest’s Damarkis Edwards (T-8, +4) and Carl Junction’s Jack Spencer (T-8, +4) are also in the top 10 after the first day.

Branson’s Benjamin Presley (T-12, +5) and Camdenton’s Gunnar Schuster (T-12, +5) are the area’s other golfers in the top 25.

Glendale is the in the mix for a team trophy after shooting a 330 (+42) as a team to earn a tie for fourth after one day. The Falcons were closely packed together with two players at +10 and two more at +11.

Class 3

Nevada’s Owen Swearingen sits in a tie for first with two other golfers at even par. He shot a 70 on the opening day of the tournament. Swearingen was consistent throughout the day shooting an even par 35 on the front nine and matching it on the back.

Monett’s Jaxon Bailey is alone in fifth place at two over. He had two bogeys on the front nine to shoot a 37, but was strong on the back nine with a 35.

Springfield Catholic’s John Griesemer (T-16, +7), Reeds Spring’s Ty Cooper (T-18, +8), Hollister’s Garrett Snyder (T-18, +8) and Logan-Rogersville’s Tyler Davis (T-18, +8) and Cole Goff (24, +9) round out the area’s individuals in the top 25.

In the team race, Monett sits in sixth place with a team total of 344 (+64) with Rogersville in seventh at 348 (+64).

Class 2

Owen Duddridge from Willow Springs is the area’s top golfer sitting tied for 14th in Class 2 after one day with an 86 (+15). Teammate Matthew Miller joined him in the top 25 one stroke back at +16, which is tied for 21st.

Sarcoxie’s Eli Ellis is also tied for 21st to give the area three golfers in the top 25 in Class 2. Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl is in first place by five strokes at one under (70).

Greenwood is sitting in third as a team with a +81 through the first day. Willow Springs (+92), El Dorado Springs (+108) and Liberty (+127) are in seventh, eighth and ninth as a team.

Class 1

Cole Camp is in first place as a team by 11 strokes after the first day of the Class 1 state golf tournament. The Bluebirds shot 335 (+47) as a team to open competition. Matthew Bright (T-3, +7) and Spencer Godwin (T-7, +10) and Tyler Howard (T-9, +11) are all in the top 10 to pace Cole Camp.

The leader is Columbia Independent’s Joseph Devoy who is one stroke ahead of Bright with a Day 1 78 (+6).

Ash Grove’s Asher Rust (T-9, +11) gives the area four players in the top 10.

New Covenant’s Jackson McRoberts is tied for 16th after shooting an 84 (+12).

Thomas Jefferson is eighth as a team with a Day 1 total of 389 (+101).
