Galena softball is looking forward to completing its first full season since 2019. The Lady Bears lost the 2020 season to the COVID-19 pandemic like every area program. They then had to shut down last season after five games due to injuries.

“The team will consist of a core of junior and senior role players that will be relied on to lead us that include: senior Savanna Baker, senior Jordan Boelke, junior Taylor “Swift” Jones, junior Kalie Burchett and sophomore Bree Rice,” Galena head coach Kenna Foster said.

Boelke and Jones will handle a bulk of the pitching duties while Rice will be the catcher.

The rest of the lineup remains to be decided.

“Other than our pitchers and catcher, we are still waiting to see what our team looks like after we get everyone on the field to determine positions after being off the field for the better part of three years,” Foster said. “We have a very athletic group when they are all healthy and able to play, so we are excited to see what we have.”

Galena opens the season on Mar. 19 at the Verona Tournament.

“My expectations at the moment is to just come out and compete,” Foster said. “We have the pieces to be competitive, we just have to put it all together for a full season.”
