Blue Eye shines defensively in 57-19 third place game win

Blue Eye made a defensive statement in the second half on the way to a dominant 57-19 win over St. Paul Lutheran in the Class 2 third place game. The Lady Bulldogs held the Saints to just five second-half points.

Blue Eye jumped out to a 14-6 lead after one quarter and a 23-14 lead at the half. Out of the break, the Lady Bulldogs put the game away with a 19-4 advantage in the third quarter and 15-1 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Riley Arnold led all scorers with 17 points. Twin sister Avery Arnold and Gracycn Fairchild each scored 12 points for Blue Eye.

The Lady Bulldog press was stifling in the game forcing 25 St. Paul turnovers. Fairchild had a game-high five steals followed by Riley Arnold with four steals and Avery Arnold and Makayla Johnson with three steals each.

Blue Eye shot 35.2% from the field for the game while holding St. Paul to just 20.6% from the field.

The Lady Bulldogs finish the season with a record of 27-6. The win marked the last game for five seniors including: Riley Arnold, Avery Arnold, Gracyn Fairchild, Kyla Warren and Makayla Johnson. That group helped Blue Eye to four straight district titles, three consecutive final fours and three Class 2 third place finishes.
