Thayer uses big third quarter to claim Class 3 third place trophy

Thayer used a big third quarter to pull away from Duchesne and claim the Class 3 third place trophy with a 70-45 win.

The Bobcats went into the half trailing Duchesne by one, 30-29.

Thayer quickly erased that lead and any drama by going on a 21-1 through the third quarter to take a commanding 50-31 lead heading into the fourth period. The Bobcats outscored Duchesne 20-14 in the final period on the way to a 41-5 second-half advantage and 70-45 win.

Thayer senior Jordan Andrews led the way with 33 points on 14-for-19 shooting from the field. Landry Pitts scored 14 and Keaton Nicholson added 12 to give Thayer three players in double figures.

Defense was the key in the second half for Thayer. Duchesne shot 44% from the field in the first half. After the break, that number dropped to 17.9%.

Thayer finishes the season with a 29-2 record. The win marked the final game for Thayer seniors Jordan Andrews, Lane Grimes, Keaton Nicholson, Gaige Pitts, Landry Pitts and Dayton McCormick.
