Spokane baseball will look to win double-digit games for the first time since 2017 with a pair of returning all-conference players leading the way.

Jace Leigh and Luke Wasson will be team leaders this year after each were named Second-Team All-SWCL last season. Both will play catcher, shortstop and pitch.

Bo Essick (sophomore) will also be in the mix to pitch, catch and play shortstop.

Juniors Joseph Jimerson and Grady Claybrook will hold down two of the outfield spots.

Coach Mike Essick will look for his team to do the routine things to improve on last year’s record.

“With any baseball team, to be successful, you have to throw strikes, make plays, and consistently put the ball in play, and be able to manufacture a few runs,” Essick said.

Spokane opens the regular season on Mar. 18 at Central.

“(I expect them) to improve daily, and be competitive, and to strive to become a better person by developing a work ethic, being held accountable and responsible,” Essick said. “If we can teach some of these values through baseball, then we will be successful.”
