Humansville boys basketball finished 12-10 overall last year. It was the program’s first winning season in more than a decade and only the four season with double-digit wins since 2013.

Junior Tucker Ahlers will be the team’s leader according Humansville head coach John Cherne III. He was a first-team all-conference selection last year.

“(He is) athletic and able to finish around the rim with consistency. Tucker has expanded his range shooting and should be exciting to watch,” Cherne III.

Seniors Tyler Ball and Kooper Bays along with junior Wyatt Foley and sophomores Kade White, Gage Kenney and Blake Gwinn also return this year.

Cherne on Ball: “(He) is a sharp shooter. His role will continue to expand as the season progresses.”
Cherne on White: “(He) has the ability to get the offense started and defend some of the other team’s better players. He will be fun to watch as he matures and develops as a player.”
Cherne on Bays: “(He is a) big, strong and athletic forward who has the ability to drive and score around the rim. His tenacity when rebounding will cause issues for teams.”
Cherne on Kenney: “(He is a) long and athletic forward who rebounds fiercely and can defend a guard or post player. Gage will develop as the season progresses.”
Cherne on Foley: “(He is) athletic and explosive driving to the rim. He will be able to defend and finish at the basket.”
Cherne on Gwinn: “(He) has developed in strength and maturity and will be able to contribute during the season.”

Freshmen Ty Ahler and Kylan Vorwork will look to make an immediate varsity impact.

“(Ahlers) has gained strength since the summer and extended his range and consistency on his shot,” Cherne said. “(Vorwork) has gained strength and began to fine tune his skill set as a ball handler and will develop into a fine player as the season develops.”

Cherne will implement a motion offense this year.

“Humansville will be a motion offensive team based in movement and specific actions, which will get key athletes open to score. While we play a pressure man to man defense, hoping to create turnovers and transition baskets,” Cherne said. “We need to continue to develop our skill sets offensively and find accuracy with our range, and continue to learn how to play man-to-man defense.”
