Plato girls basketball had a streak of nine consecutive seasons with double-digit wins snapped last year, as the Eagles finished 8-14 overall.

They will try to start a new streak this year behind the leadership of senior Cara Couch. The All-Frisco League selection should eclipse 1,000 career points this year.

She will be joined by fellow returning players Shelby Wilson (senior), Ramsey Crews (senior), Brenna Couch (sophomore) and Kaylee Copley (sophomore).

Freshmen Mikalea Fletcher and Tavi Raddock will be newcomers to the varsity lineup.

Plato will find its strength in the paint this year.

“Our interior strength in the paint, along with our overall size (will be a strength). We will also have good rebounding on the inside,” Plato head coach Wesley Shaw said. “We will need to improve on guard play and sharing the ball to release pressure and get inside the paint.”

Plato will travel to Lebanon on Nov. 18 for a jamboree with Conway, Stoutland and Lebanon. The Eagles will open the regular season on Nov. 22 at home against Maranatha Baptist.

“Our overall team identity will be a defense and rebounding team,” Shaw said. “I expect to be in the top half of the conference.”
