Thayer grinds out five point win for eighth straight district title

Thayer used a strong second half to pull away from Portageville and win the Class 3 District 1 title by a 46-41 margin. It is the eighth consecutive district title for Thayer and the 11th in the past 12 years.
Top seeded Thayer trailed Portageville by one (11-10) after one quarter. The margin was still one point in favor of Portageville at the half with the Bobcats trailing 24-23.
Thayer came out strong in the third quarter posting a 15-10 advantage to take a four-point lead on the way to winning the game by five.
Landry Pitts (10) was key for Thayer in that third quarter. He scored eight of his 13 points in the frame.
Gaige Pitts (3) tied Landry with 13 points in the game.
Jordan Andrews (22) also finished in double figures with 12 points for Thayer.
Thayer advances to the Class 3 state tournament where the Bobcats will face Charleston on Tuesday, Mar. 2. Charleston has won 11 consecutive district titles and been to three consecutive final fours.
