Billings girls basketball had a breakout season last year with a 15-12 overall record. It was the first time that the Lady Wildcats finished above .500 and won double digit games since at least 2009.

Even bigger things are expected this year with a strong group of four senior leaders that include Hanna Verch (guard), Grace Vesci (guard), Lizzie Edwards (forward) and Sky Metscher (forward). Vesci led that group in scoring at 9.9 ppg. Verch averaged 5.7 ppg.

“We should have a solid team with the experienced players we have returning,” Billings head coach Randy Towe said.

Sophomore Bella Harter earned second-team all-conference honors as a freshman. She led the team in both scoring at 12.8 ppg while pulling down a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game. Harter also shot 49% from the field.

“Bella Harter worked extremely hard in the off-season and has shown great improvement since the beginning of freshman year,” Towe said.

Ryleigh Gearing and Kenzie Clendenning are two freshmen that will look to make an immediate impact.

“We will be a team with speed and size,” Towe said. “We won 15 games last year and plan to match that or exceed it. I am excited to be coaching these girls, as they are dedicated hard workers.”

Billings opens the season Nov. 21-25 at the Verona Tournament.
