After only eight wins in 2019, Marshfield rebounded nicely last season in head coach Katie Pritchard’s second season.

The Lady Jays finished with a 15-11 record, falling to Rogersville in the district tournament.

Marshfield bids farewell to a pair of key graduates in Addison Crider and all-conference and all-district selection Dani Brewer.

“Addison was a great leader for us on and off the floor,” Pritchard said. “We will be looking to this year’s seniors to help fill that role. Dani was our leading scorer. She brought consistency to our team on both sides of the floor.”

A quartet of Lady Jays return to lead the team on and off the floor this season.

Junior Kori Cromer averaged 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game last season. The 5-foot-7 guard received all-conference and all-district honors.

“Kori is a scorer from everywhere on the floor,” Pritchard said. “She sees the floor well and gets her teammates involved.”

5-foot-9 senior Brooklyn Crawford averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds per game last year.

“Brooklyn is a great athlete and competitor,” Pritchard said. “She’s always active on the boards and is a capable scorer.”

5-foot-11 senior Maile Peck averaged 5 points and 5 rebounds per game last season.

“Maile will be a strong post presence for us this season with her ability to score and rebound,” Pritchard said.

Serenity Crosby, a 5-foot-6 senior guard, also returns for Marshfield.

Pritchard believes competition will be wide open for a handful of varsity newcomers to step in and make an impact this season.

“We are hoping to see newcomers to the varsity level step in with confidence,” Pritchard said. “They bring athleticism and knowledge of the game that will complement our returners.”

With a solid returning core of players, Pritchard believes Marshfield could be poised to take another positive step and build on last season’s success.

“I am excited for the season ahead and all the opportunities it presents to improve as a team,” Pritchard said. “Our primary goal is to continue on an upward trend as a program and live up to the Lady Jay tradition.”

A possible postseason run will depend largely on Marshfield’s defensive and rebounding efforts this season, according to Pritchard.

“We are looking to work on being more tenacious and consistent on the defensive end,” Pritchard said. “Another focus will be rebounding on both ends of the floor. We want to control the boards in every game.

“The biggest X factor for our team will be our ability to adapt to changes and obstacles faced throughout the year. Every year you are guaranteed to meet obstacles. How we attack those obstacles will play a big factor in this season’s success.”

Marshfield opens its season Nov. 23 against Clever.
