Cabool Senior Making Most of Senior Opportunity

A high school senior at Cabool is relishing every moment of his final football season after battling back from injuries. He does it while attending school and working two jobs. Michael Deere introduces us to Cole Reese.

“Three years of football and I played a total of four games.”

As a kid, Cole Reese always dreamed of following in his dad and brother’s footsteps.

“It was always one of my dream sports,” Reese said.  “All my teammates always played and my dad and whole family played football. This team really means a lot for me.”

But injuries from his eighth to tenth grades kept Reese on the sidelines.

“Physical therapy and everything…it took a lot of time to grow back and fight back. But I always knew that I wanted to come back senior year and play.”

He never missed a game, practice, or chance to learn more about the game.

“Cole’s awesome,” coach Tyler Spittler said.  “You can’t say enough good things about him. He’s the total team guy.”

After playing his junior season as tight end, he asked to switch positions. He now plays on both the offensive and defensive lines.

“He literally knows every position on the field,” coach Spittler said.  “He comes in with a great attitude. He coaches all of them. He’s an amazing leader for us.”

If that wasn’t enough: On top of school and football, Reese works on his family farm and works for his dad’s HVAC business too.

“Normally I wake up about 6:30 and normally in bed around 10 or 11,” Reese said.

Even with the pandemic looming over the season, Reese says the Bulldogs have a chance to be a special team. He wouldn’t want it any other way.

“It’s been really fun. I’ve had quite a few plays where I get out there and I get after it and it just feels really good to really be on the team and do something good for the team.”
