“They’re all just super excited that New Covenant was able to add this as a team this year,” said NCA golf coach Mickey Moore.
After years in the making, New Covenant Academy finally added a girls golf team.
“We knew there were several girls coming up through the middle school ages, and we also had a few athletes that were looking for another fall sport,” Mickey said.
State Champion swimmer Maggie Moore decided to pick up the sport, which also means bonus time with dad.
“Since my dad’s the coach I kinda knew I was going to play. He’s really patient and it’s just a lot of fun,” Maggie said.
Five of the Lady Warriors are new to the game, and will turn to freshman Savannah Thessing as a leader in their inaugural season.
“I want to start shooting in the 70s more consistently this year, and just become a better putter,” Thessing said.
Success doesn’t happen over night, but after the team’s first tournament the Lady Warriors already feel like winners.
“Now we all set different goals and see our potential, and that’s really exciting I think,” said Thessing.
“The girls all just had great spirits. That was our biggest focus going into today, with a new team, and a new season, was just to go out and have fun, and that’s exactly what they did,” Mickey said.
“We’re all just here to play our best and have fun, and it’s just nice to make new friends that way,” said Maggie.
