Tony Romo was originally scheduled to play in Wednesday’s ProAm, but didn’t end up making it with a lingering wrist injury. But there’s still plenty to celebrate as this is the first Pro Am event on the Tour.
“Yeah it was fantastic. Davis is a tremendous player. We had so much fun out there today, watching how he works out on the golf course,” said Simmons Bank Market President Charlie Van Ness, one of the amateurs golfing in the tournament.
Amateurs getting to tee it up with the pros — having a little fun, while also working on their game.
“I think everybody in our group likes to play golf, and plays at home where they’re from, but when you come and get to play with people like Davis it’s just a humbling experience, and really fun,” Van Ness said.
“It’s nice to see some, kind of fans so-to-speak, and get some good comradery out there, but it was nice today to get some good prep in and get ready for a good week,” said Korn Ferry Tour leader Davis Riley.
Riley is using the Pro Am as a warm-up for the weekend. After winning the San Antonio Championship last weekend, he’s just one Korn Ferry Tour win away from earning a spot on the PGA Tour.
“Getting the win last week felt good. It felt like I was getting some good golf in for awhile. It felt nice having everything come together since we’ve returned to golf. It was nice to get two out of three, and it’s nice they’re keeping that three-win promotion still in play. Obviously the goal this week is to get the win and get to the big show,” Riley said.
