Mason Auer’s senior year at Kickapoo, he pulled double-duty as the state’s top outfielder, and number-2 pitching prospect. The Chief was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 39th round of the 2019 MLB Draft, but chose to play for the Bears instead.
“I went to Missouri State last year. I had a good time, I liked the team and everything, but it just wasn’t really the right fit for me,” Auer said.
The 2020 season was cut short, but after pitching 3 innings for the Bears, and seeing 9 at-bats, Auer is moving on.
“I’m going to transfer to a juco down in Houston: San Jacinto, and I think I’ll have a great opportunity there to look at the draft for next year and also look at getting into another great four-year,” said Auer.
With the NCAA allowing this season’s seniors another year of eligibility, Mason said that played a small role in his decision.
“That wasn’t the main part of my decision, but it had to do with that yeah,” said Auer.
Baseball is back, and Mason Auer is hopeful as the Springfield star migrates to Houston this fall.
“I’m excited, I’m ready to get things going down in Houston and it should be a lot of fun so I’m really excited,” Auer said. “I’m hoping to just get better and further my skills and hopefully sign with another division one by hopefully by the end of fall and hopefully have another chance to get drafted again next year.“
