Billings girls basketball has improved its win total each of the past five seasons. The Lady Wildcats have a solid returning core of players that are looking to keep that streak alive and get Billings back to double-digit wins.

Leading that group is senior Bailey Groves, who earned All-SWCL honors as a junior after she averaged 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2.5 assists per game.

“She is a tremendous leader and is a tremendous athlete,” Billings head coach Randy Towe said. “I look for big things from her. I expect her to be one of the best players in our conference and a dominant offensive threat each night. She will be listed as a forward, but she can play any position, which is what makes her so valuable.”

The junior quartet of Lizzie Edwards (center), Skylar Metscher (forward), Hanna Verch (guard) and Grace Vesci (forward) along with sophomore Haili Ashley (forward) also return with varsity experience. Vesci led that group with 10.5 points per game. Edwards (5 ppg), Verch (3.5 ppg) and Metscher (3 ppg) also contributed offensively.

Experience gained in 2018-19 should pay off in 2019-20.

“Our young girls obtained some much needed experience which should be a big help,” Towe said.

Towe will look for his team to take care of the ball.

“We will have to minimize our turnovers and shoot the ball better,” Towe said.

Freshman Bella Harter should make an immediate impact at center.

“I want to be able to compete with everyone. I really hope to add to our win totals from past years,” Towe said.

Billings opens the season on Nov. 25 at home against Miller.
