Warsaw will look for new scorers to step up after graduating the two-leading scorers from last season’s team that finished 19-8 overall. That duo was Matt Luebbert (20.4 ppg) and Logan Davis (14.7 ppg). Luebbert also led the team in rebounding while Davis led the team in assists.

“Needless to say, we will need some kids to assume larger roles both offensively and defensively this year. We return 4 players who played significant minutes last season. So it is simply a matter of those 4 individuals assuming leadership of the program,” coach Scott Floyd said.

Trey Palmer is the leading returning scorer after averaging eight points per game as a sophomore.

“Trey will need to score on a consistent basis this year. He has improved scoring off the bounce and finishing around the rim. Trey will also be responsible for handling the ball on most possessions,” Floyd said. “Trey has improved on scoring off the bounce and finishing around the rim. He has also improved his body which should allow him to play in a more physical manner this season.”

Lane Bates (senior), Zach Chapman (senior) and Brady Slavens (sophomore) all return after seeing significant varsity time last year. Both Chapman and Slavens saw time starting.

Tristen Reynolds (senior), James Kellner (sophomore) and Austin Brazel (junior) are newcomers to watch for Warsaw.

“The biggest strength is that we now have a program with more consistency. Plus we have a program comprised of student-athletes that are learning how to win on the basketball court,” Floyd said. “We must improve on scoring consistency. As a team, we need to avoid long periods of little or no offensive production.”

Conference and district titles remain the goal for Warsaw.

“As a program our goals remain consistent from year to year. Those goals are to win a conference championship and to win a district championship,” Floyd said.

Warsaw opens the season on Nov. 26 at Stockton.
