Chadwick boys basketball had its strongest season in many years in 2018-19 finishing 18-12 and winning a district title. It was Chadwick’s first district title since 2011 and first winning season since 2012.

Don’t expect the Cardinals to take a step back this year after losing just one key player to graduation in Evan Smith.

The returning players start with the senior trio of Jacob Stevens, Trent Nalley and Hayden Rozell. Stevens averaged 11.2 points, 5.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game last season. Nalley poured in 13.6 points per game to go with 6.4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2.3 assists per game. Rozell returns with averages of 7.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.8 assists per game. Nalley and Rains each earned all-conference honors last season.

The junior duo of Jaron VanHouden and Calvin Rains also return. VanHouden averaged 10.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Rains added in 6.4 points per game.

Junior Jarin Cunningham along with sophomores Paden Gilbert and Garrett Gardner and freshman Clayton Rains are newcomers to watch for Chadwick.

“We are looking forward to this season. We bring back four starters and some guys with a lot of playing time under their belt. My philosophy has not changed any, we like to get up and down the floor and be aggressive on both sides of the ball. Our conference is always tight and we feel we could be in the hunt for the championship this year,” Chadwick head coach Shawn Guerin said.

Chadwick opens the season on Nov. 22 at Seymour.
