Nixa volleyball advanced to the program’s first state title match by going 5-1 in pool play.

The Eagles swept Francis Howell Central 25-19, 25-16 to open the day. In the second match, Nixa faced a familiar opponent in Lafayette (Wildwood). The two teams split with Wildwood winning set one 25-19 and Nixa winning set two 25-22. Nixa finished off pool play by sweeping Liberty 25-15, 25-22.

Now Nixa will face Lafayette (Wildwood) for the fifth time this season. This time with a Class 4 state championship on the line.

“We have played them four times this year. I think it is just going to be the team that can execute the most. Serve and pass will be extremely important for us,” Nixa head coach Annie Zimmerman said. “I think we have good momentum going into tomorrow.”

Her message for her team will be simple.

“Just do what we do. Focus on what we are doing. I think earlier in the day they were so worried about lots of other things and they forgot those little important things that we work on all the time and just being disciplined with those. If we can do that tomorrow then we will put ourselves in a real good position.”

Jaycee Fixsen (21 kills), Kenzie Hines (17 kills) and Jordan Collard (17 kills) all had strong days hitting. Sydney Golden had 71 assists for the Eagles.

So far this year, Nixa and Wildwood have played nine sets with Nixa leading 6-3.

Nixa will face Lafayette (Wildwood) at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow for the Class 4 state title.
