When the Stanley Cup made its way to Springfield on Thursday, youth hockey players got a chance to see it up close.

“I have a kid on the pewee team, and he was so excited the Cup got to come to Springfield that he made me take him out of school a little early, and go to Bass Pro, stand in line there,” said hockey mom Jill Crockett. “He got to kiss the cup, so he was super excited about that. And then he still got to come here with his team.”

Having the Stanley Cup trophy in Springfield is incredibly rare, but getting the kids involved and excited about hockey is what it’s all about for former Blues’ defenseman Rick Zombo.

“For me, it’s all about youth hockey, and growing the game,” Zombo said.

“We hope that with the Blues win and the Cup being here it will create some excitement about hockey, and bring in more people to enjoy such an awesome sport,” said Dayton Loven, the President of Springfield Youth Hockey Association.
