Mountain Grove volleyball graduated a six-player senior class from last year’s 17-win squad including the leader in all the major statistical categories.

“Their leadership and experience will be the big thing that we need to figure out how to replace going into this season,” Mountain Grove head coach Amy McNew said.

Senior Lauren Dickey (middle hitter) and junior Kelsey Watson (outside hitter) are the only returning players that posted double-digit kills last season.

“We will have to rely heavily on them for offensive output so their attempts will increase this year, so we really need them to be very efficient this year,” McNew said. “They will be expected to improve on offense and really figure out how to be the leaders of this group.”

Senior Kennason Glenn returns but will be switching to setter. Gracie Farran (junior middle hitter), Addy Welch (sophomore setter/outside hitter) and Claire Felker (sophomore defensive specialist) are the other returning players.

Sophomores Tory Thompson (setter) and Emma Stigall (middle hitter) along with freshmen Kamryn Kuster (middle hitter), Logynn Foster (defensive specialist), Reagan Hoernin (setter/outside hitter, Morgan Hunger (outside hitter) and Samee Peterson (defensive specialist) will be new players to watch for Mountain Grove this year.

“I am excited about this season, watching the growth of these players as the year goes along because I feel we can compete with anyone,” McNew said.

Mountain Grove travels to Willard for a jamboree on Tuesday, Aug. 27 before opening the regular season on Sept. 3 at Conway.
