Fall 2019 Preview: Central Volleyball

Central volleyball will be looking to bounce back from a four-win season that featured one conference win in Central’s first season as a member of the Ozark Conference.

“We need to keep working hard to improve our volleyball fundamentals in both ways: individually and as a team. Our conference is sharp with great teams, and because our team is young – with a significant number of sophomores, we can reach good results in the future,” Central head coach Lisiane Matsdorff said.

Central had a young squad last year with just two seniors. That will against be the case this season.

“This season again, we will have only two seniors. I am pleased with the growth and commitment I am receiving from mainly sophomores – that is our most significant number of volleyball players at Central. Also, most of the juniors are trying to improve their leadership to help our two seniors to impact the younger players positively. It is a great accomplishment as a team,” Matsdorff said.’

Taylar MacKay and Kayla Lick are those two seniors. MacKay will be an outside hitter while Lick will be a defensive player.

The sophomore class will have a great impact of the Lady Bulldogs this year.

“Most of the sophomores are incredibly coachable in so many positive ways. I think that this year most of them will do a high return and improvement in court in so many aspects of volleyball. They played club ball, and the experience was positive to improve their skills, knowledge, and confidence,” Matsdorff said.

Matsdorff will look for her players to show improvement throughout the season.

“(We need to) keep working hard to overcome our obstacles during the season, keep improving and keep changing positively and constructively our volleyball culture in our school,” Matsdorff said.

Central will host Hollister, Lebanon and Strafford for a jamboree on Aug. 26. The Lady Bulldogs will open the regular season on Sept. 3 at home against Rolla.
