The Lebanon Yellowjackets slipped past the the Glendale Falcons 319 to 324 on Monday to claim this year’s Ozark Conference Tournament Championship. The tourney took place at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield. Rolla finished third with a score of 336.

The Jacket’s Tryn Titus and Cooper Hess both carded rounds of 74 to lead Lebanon to the tournament championship. It was a big win for the Yellowjackets who finished as runner ups in 2017.

“Getting a ‘W’ in our conference tournament is an amazing feeling,” said first year Lebanon head coach Zach Hines. “We had very strong efforts from all of our kids today to get it done and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

By conference rule Titus and Hess had to compete in a playoff for top medalist honors. On the first hole of the playoff Titus parred, while his teammate Hess bogeyed, to grab this year’s top medalist honors for the tournament.

“I tried to play aggressively all day. I wanted to make sure I had a short club in my hands to the greens,” said Titus. “I think that’s what got me in at 74.”

“I thought it was an awesome feeling to go out and compete for top medalist honors with someone who’s both a teammate and one of my best friends,” he said. “But I’m especially happy for my team. Everybody played well today and we’re all conference champions.”

Hess shared Titus’ sentiments. “First I want to commend Tryn on his victory today. All the hard work he’s put in this year is paying off for him,” Hess said. “But I also want to congratulate my teammates on our conference tournament win. For me, to have almost won top medalist honors today was nice, but being part of this year’s Ozark Conference championship team is really cool.”

Next up for the Yellowjackets is their district tournament at Lake Valley.

“We’re all looking forward to competing for a district title,” said Titus. “I hope we play really well there and can repeat what we did here today.”

Glendale coach Chris Obert also liked the effort he got from his Falcon squad- a squad composed of two freshmen, two sophomores and one junior.

“We would have liked to have gotten a win today. But we’re young and we just came up a little bit short,” said Obert. “But I think everybody learned something out there today and that’s all that really matters. What they learned today will help us in the future.”
