“Pin Chain” provides new motivation for Lebanon wrestlers

So the Lebanon wrestling team’s got this thing…

“It’s called our pin chain,” said head coach Randy Roark.

It’s something they’ve seen a couple of times at big wrestling tournaments.

“One of the teams we were wrestling got that chain a’rattilin’ and I thought it was the difference in the duel. Their kids came out and pinned us.’

So, Lebanon made its own pin chain.

“Yeah, that is something we decided to make a couple weeks ago,” said senior Trevor Christian.

“Let’s try it,” said Roark.  “So, we put together a chain, and kids want to wear that chain, so they’re squeezing pretty hard when they get you on your back.”

The way it works is simple.  If you get a pin you get to wear the chain.

“Our kids have been loving it,” said Roark.  “You’ll hear that chain rattilin’, and they get pretty fired up when they get a guy on their back. They’ve been finishing.”

“At 152 pounds, Trevor Christian is leading our team so far in pins.”

“If you hear that rattling it makes you want to get a pin a lot more, because you know you get to come off with a chain,” said Christian.

Lebanon was getting pins before they introduced the pin chain, so it’s tough to say if it’s really helping them. But one things’ for sure – it makes things more fun.

“You’ll hear it. I don’t know if you can hear it around the gym, but the kids can sure hear it on the mat.”
