Athlete of the Week: Casey Wallace, Spokane

Coming in at 5’4″ tall, Casey Wallace is the shortest girl on the Spokane roster, but she might play the biggest game. And, that was no secret heading into her senior season.

“She understood that she had the bulls-eye on her back. People were already trying to take her away from us,” said coach Dale Patton.

Her biggest strength, is shooting the three.

“Anybody that’s got that shooting ability that she has to be able to knock it down from long range. She gets in the volleyball spike line, and she’s in range,” Patton said, “She’s made herself into the player and shooter that she is. It’s been all her.”

“A thousand shots a day, ever since I was little, ever since I worked out with Jackie Stiles I put that into my mentality,” said Wallace.

One thousand shots every day; that’s 365,000 shots a year on top of practice. And, it’s about to pay off. Casey is just 11 three’s away from breaking the Missouri 3-point record.

“It’s amazing, I haven’t thought about it until recently, so it’s been a big deal,” said Wallace, “Probably at the beginning of this year they told me I was getting close to it, and when I started to reach closer and closer the nerves kind of got there.”

“I had no idea taking the job when I did that she was that close to breaking this record,” said Patton.

How many more three’s do you think she can make this year?

“Let’s just say the old coach here has one or two more plays in the back that is ideal for what she wants to do,” said Patton.
