Kyle Fields enters his second season as the head coach of the McDonald County boys. His Mustangs are looking to improve coming off of last year’s 4-24 season.

“We expect to be competitive and our goal is to improve every day,” Fields said.

He graduated four seniors from last year’s team in Sergio Dozal, Noah Jones, Devon Aubrey, Brandon McAdams.

The Mustangs do return three starters from last year’s team. Cooper Reece leads the three returning starters coming off of an honorable mention all-conference selection as a sophomore. He was the lone Mustang to earn All-Big 8 honors last season.

Boston Dowd and Blake Gravette will also return as starters this season.

Peyton Barber will be a new face to the varsity lineup after missing last year with injury. Cole DelosSantos will step up both on defense and rebounding. Andrew Landers so some starting time last year and will see his role expand.

“We will be more athletic, and more experienced than we were a year ago,” Fields said. “We hope to build on those two things throughout the year.”

McDonald County will be looking to build off of its strong finish to last season that ended by upseting league rival Cassville 47-43 in the district quarterfinals before falling to No. 1 seed Aurora in the semifinals.

“We have a good bunch of kids and good coaching staff. We are looking forward to a great year with this group,” Fields said.

McDonald County opens the season on Nov. 21 at home against Diamond.
