Humansville has a new head coach in Robbie Bates this season. He must replace six graduated seniors from last year’s five-win team.

Replacing that experience will be his first challenge at Humansville.

“I believe that experience is going to have to come from everywhere due to the lack of it from last year,” Bates said. “However it gives a lot of kids the opportunity to step up and take hold of roles that we in the hands of seniors last year.”

The senior trio of Isaac Martino, James Brown and Matt Hicks along with junior Freddie Wieder will be the key returning players that saw varsity time last year.

Braeden Decker, Cameron Jenkins and Donny Decker will also be key varsity players this season.

The depth of this year’s team will be important to Humansville’s success.

“I believe we could have depth to play the style of basketball that I like to play as a coach,” Bates said.

“We want to be physical and make the game as up and down as possible.”

A big thing for Bates in his first season will be establishing the right mentality.

“I want us to develop a team mentality that we compete every night every possession,” Bates said. “I want us coming off the floor each night saying that we did everything we could to win.”
