Couch finished 6-15 in 2016-17, but the Indians are poised for big things in 2017-18 with four returning starters and seven returning lettermen this year.

Seniors Avion Sorrell, Colby Patterson and Cole Neal return after all averaged in double figures last season.

Sorrell led the way with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals per game.

“Avion is one the quickest players I have ever coached, his athletic ability is flawless,” head coach Micheal Mahan said. “With this guy’s ability to jump out of the gym and his speed, he has the opportunity to lead us in virtually every category.”

Patterson chipped in 14 points along with 2.5 steals and assists per game.

“Colby will be dominant driving force for our offense and with his quickness and defensive skills; he could lead the team in steals,” Mahan said. “He is a disciplined player that takes good shots and sees the floor well. He displays good leadership, teamwork, and is the definition of hustle.”

Neal rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and six rebounds per contest.

“Cole is quick player that sees the floor well and can put some quick points on the board,” Mahan said. “Cole will help in the role of running point guard this season. With his jumping ability, he could easily lead the team in blocks and could contribute greatly on offense and defense.”

Senior Matt Brown rounds out the senior class after averaging five points and four rebounds per game.

“There probably isn’t a kid on the court that gives it their all or hustles any harder than Matt. With his offense and defense ability, he will be a key to our success this year,” Mahan said.

Junior John Hipps also returns after scoring three points to go with two rebounds, assists and steals per game last year.

“John is going to help run the point some for us this upcoming season. He can see the floor well and displays good passing ability,” Mahan said. “He also displays a great shot and should be able to put some numbers up on the board for us.”

Freshman Kayson Cora will also be a contributor right away for the Indians.

All of this experience returning to the court has Mahan excited for what this season can bring.

“I am truly blessed with a group of boys that are a 100% dedicated to the game that they love and play,” Mahan said. “This group of boys will bring back to the court a lot of seasoned talent and experience this year. They have the hunger and want to succeed and win. I think we will surprise and shock some teams this year, and collect several wins along the way. As the boys say, get off the tracks, the freight train is a coming.”

Couch opens the season on Nov. 28 at Lutie.
