Josh Pritchett knows what you’re thinking. He hears it a lot from his teammates.

“All my teammates say I look super slow out there,” Pritchett said. “As long as I’m making plays, it doesn’t really matter.”

Pritchett played the role of elusive playmaker on Friday night, as he danced all over the Parkview defense for nearly 450 yards of total offense.

Pritchett accounted for five touchdowns – three rushing and two passing – as Rolla out-dueled Parkview 52-33 at JFK Stadium.

The Bulldogs are off to a 2-1 start, their first winning record through three games since the 2010 season. That was also the last season Rolla finished with a winning record.

“Our kids did a great job of buying in last year and continued to develop during the season,” said Rolla coach Jon Franks. “The run we had late in the season last year carried over to the offseason. We’re still a long way away, but it’s a good feeling for our guys to be in this scenario where they get to celebrate a little bit.”

Pritchett completed 20 of 27 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns. He had 21 carries for 138 yards and three scores.

Repeatedly, with Parkview defenders around him, Pritchett turned potential negative plays into sizable gains or back-breaking pass completions. The 6’3” quarterback’s running style could best be described as patient.

“I’m always looking for the next cut,” Pritchett said. “I’m not really looking to break away until I see that I have a big crease. I’m just looking for that next cutback lane or something like that.”

First-year Parkview coach Paul Hansen coached Blaine Armstrong at Marshfield and said there are similarities between the two quarterbacks.

“(Pritchett) is very smooth in his running. He’s very patient,” Hansen said. “He does a good job of seeing the field.”

Pritchett had plenty of help against the Vikings.

Senior Blaize Klossner had seven catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. Junior Davis Buhr had 133 total yards from scrimmage and a pair of touchdowns.

Rolla’s balance helped the Bulldogs overcome a 250-yard rushing performance by Parkview junior Blake Delacruz.

Rolla went deep into its playbook early, scoring the game’s first touchdown on a halfback pass as Klossner hit a wide-open Buhr for a 44-yard score.

“Josh, Blaize and Davis, they’re athletic and good football players,” Franks said. “(Offensive coordinator) Chad Shockley does a nice job of getting them the ball and moving it around. Every week, we want to get them so many touches.”

Vikings senior wide receiver Gage Clark had three second-half touchdowns to help Parkview rally from a 24-6 halftime deficit.

His second touchdown catch brought Parkview within 31-27 early in the fourth quarter.

“I’m happy with how hard our guys fought tonight,” Hansen said. “We never quit.”

But Rolla responded with an 8-yard touchdown run from Pritchett to go back in front 38-27. Klossner made a leaping catch down the middle on 3rd and long to keep the drive alive.

Rolla intercepted a Parkview pass on the game’s next drive. Three plays later, Pritchett found Tristen O’Neal in the back right corner for an 8-yard touchdown.

Within about five minutes of game time, Rolla’s four-point lead swelled to 18.

“We try to get the ball to our guys on the edge, and we know they can make plays,” Pritchett said.

Parkview sophomore quarterback Trevor Boice had a strong second half and finished 11-for-17 for 147 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He had 114 yards on 17 carries as Parkview tallied over 500 yards of offense.

“I think I’m going to fire the defensive coordinator,” said Franks, Rolla’s defensive coordinator.

Parkview (0-3) travels to Waynesville (0-3) next Friday. Rolla (2-1) plays at Joplin (2-1).

Rolla hasn’t surpassed the 3-win mark since that 2010 season.

“Our attention to detail and attitude, on and off the field,” Pritchett said of the changes in Rolla’s program. “We’re all loving each other every day, and it’s just great.”
