Evangel’s Parker named national Pitcher of the Week

Evangel University softball pitcher Kyra Parker was named the national Pitcher of the Week in the NAIA for her play in three games last week.

On Monday, she was named the Heart of America conference Pitcher of the Week and earned the national award a day later.

Parker went 3-0 with a 0.00 earned run average and did not allow a run in all three of her starts and 21 innings. The junior from Webb City allowed only 11 hits and no walks while striking out 17.

The transfer from Southwest Baptist University continued her hot run on Tuesday in a 7-1 win over Avila. The victory was her 10th consecutive win. She allowed her first run in six games and 29.2 innings but the run was unearned. Parker has not allowed an earned run in six starts and 32 innings pitched. She improved to 11-3 on the season with her win on Tuesday.

Evangel is 22-8 this season and 8-2 in the Heart of America conference. The Crusaders are in action again on Saturday when they host Peru State in a doubleheader. Game time is noon at the Evangel Softball Complex on Saturday.
