Evangel softball extends winning streak

Baldwin City, Kan.–  Evangel won for the 18th time in 20 games and extended their winning streak to five on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Baker in Baldwin City, Kansas.
 
Evangel won the first game 5-2 and blanked the Wildcats 5-0 in the second game.
 
The win improved the Crusaders Heart of America conference record to 7-1 while they moved to 21-7 overall. Baker dropped to 24-17 and 4-4 in the league.
 
In game one, Evangel scored all five of their runs in the second inning highlighted by a three-RBI double by Cassidy Gillihan. Michaela Tolliver (9-4) got the win going all seven innings allowing five hits, two runs and one earned run with two walks and two strikeouts. Katie Tollefson went 2 for 4 with an RBI in the game for the Crusaders.
 
Kyra Parker (10-3) fired a three-hit in game two for Evangel. The Webb City native won her tenth start in a row and struck out nine while walking none in the win. Megan Washam drove in two runs for Evangel with a double as part of a three-run fifth inning.
 
The Crusaders return to their home field on Tuesday when they host conference foe Avila. Game one of the doubleheader starts at 2 p.m. at the Evangel Softball Complex.
