SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri State Ice Bears are inviting everyone to “Skate With The Ice Bears” and watch the “Ice Bears Skills Challenge” competition this Saturday night, March 8th starting at 7:15 pm at Mediacom Ice Park. The events are part of the Ice Bears team current fundraising efforts to help pay travel costs in connection with their first ever trip to the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Div. 2 National Championship Finals Tournament to be held on March 21-25, 2014 in Boston.
“We are very proud to achieve this goal of reaching the ACHA National Championship Tournament this season” said Ice Bears Head Coach Bob Bucher, “and we invite everyone to come out Saturday night and join us to skate with our players and see some great players skills competitions.” Donations to skate with the Ice Bears players are requested and everyone will be able to also contribute to the team during the skills challenge competition by choosing a favorite player to win in their skills event.
The schedule of events Saturday night will be as follows;
# 7:15pm to 8:15pm; “Skate With The Ice Bears” – MIP East Rink
# 8:30pm to 9:15pm; “Ice Bears Skills Challenge” - MIP East Rink
+ Hardest Shot Challenge + Fastest Skater Challenge + One On One Vs. Goalies Challenge
“Thanks to everyone for supporting the Ice Bears all season and we hope to see you at our Ice Bears events this Saturday night,” said Coach Bucher.
The Missouri State Ice Bears 2013/14 regular / post season record now stands at: 23 W – 7 L – 1 T - 4 OTL.
The ACHA Div. 2 National Championship Finals Tournament format includes pool play for the 16 teams during the first three days of the tournament on March 21, 22, 23. The tournament brackets will include four pools of four teams each with the top team in each pool advancing to the tournament semi-finals games on Monday, March 24. The tournament national championship game will be played on Tuesday, March 25. The tournament includes the top 16 ACHA Div. 2 teams in the United States out of a total of over 200 ACHA Div. 2 teams nationwide.
