Springfield Sports Hall of Fame seeking 2014 nominations

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame is seeking nominations from the public for the SASHOF 2014 and future year induction classes.

"This is Springfield’s Sports Hall of Fame and we’d very much like to receive input from the sporting public on those individuals people feel may be deserving of inclusion,” said 2014 SASHOF Board President Jodie Adams. “We know we’ll get some names of people already on our list for consideration, but we would be pleased to see some new nominations worthy of consideration.”

The Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1985 by Bonus Frost to honor those individuals from Springfield or with a Springfield connection whose accomplishments merit consideration for the shrine. The SASHOF has had 27 induction banquet events with 103 people currently enshrined through the 2013 induction banquet last September.

People wishing to nominate individuals for consideration into the SASHOF may do so in writing, and are asked to include information on the candidate’s sports background which make that candidate worthy of consideration. Nominations may be sent c/o Springfield Sports Hall of Fame, 3307 South Brunswick, Springfield, MO 65809. All nominations must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2014.

Selections are made by the 25-member SASHOF Board of Directors which meets monthly to plan the year’s activities.

Adams noted that the board is currently considering a list including several dozen names which have been submitted at various times. Typically the annual induction class consists of three to six new members. Balloting takes place in the early spring with an announcement planned for April or May with the class for the September induction.

SASHOF is a not-for-profit organization and the proceeds from annual induction banquets are made available to local youth groups for the purchase of sports equipment. Since its establishment, SASHOF has provided over $225,000.00 to some two dozen local youth groups and organizations.
