Andrus no-hitter propels Tigers to win

Springfield, Mo. (For  -- The Willard Lady Tigers were dominant in their win over Kickapoo on Thursday night as Miki Andrus threw a no-hitter.

Willard started things off in the second inning with a Tori Thomas single.  Maddi Reynolds bunted and reached first on an error. The error also advanced Thomas to third.  With Morgan Gaunt up to bat, Reynolds easily stole second. Thomas would score on a wild pitch. Reynolds would also score.

Mistakes by Willard allowed Kickapoo to finally get on base. Kalli Carter was the first Chief to reach base after being hit by a pitch. This eventually led to a bases loaded situation, but Andrus was able to get out of the bind.

Andrus was electric for the remainder of the game, sealing her no-hitter and a victory for the Lady Tigers.

Coach Williams is pleased with the way the season has played out so far.

“I didn’t know what to expect after we beat Hillcrest 11-1, we got a lot of hits that game that carried over, it was good momentum,” said Williams. “It’s kind of nice to play back to back because it’s fresh in the girl’s minds. It’s nice to start off a season like that.”

Allison Davis also had positive things to say.

“I thought it was a good game, we came out and we hit again right off the back, and that was a big thing,” said Davis. “We didn’t have as many errors as yesterday and our mental part of the game was a lot better than yesterday.”
