Springfield, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com) -- Anna Brinck had something to prove when she returned to Foster Natatorium at the beginning of her senior year. It was up to her to justify her self-imposed hiatus from the sport the previous year and help her team compete at the state meet. With a refreshed spirit and re-energized passion for the sport, Brinck and the Nixa Eagles swim team embarked on what would be a very successful season.
“This past season was really special for me because I didn’t swim my junior year, so I came back with an open mind,” Brinck said. “I was just excited to be back and compete and have fun again.”
Brinck has been swimming since she was young, and the demands of the sport were starting to wear her down toward the end of her sophomore season. Between the pressure of competition and the strenuous training and practice schedule, Anna knew that she needed to part with the sport she loves if she wanted to have a successful senior season.
“I’d been swimming since I was very young and I was just so burnt out and felt like if there was any chance of my swimming my senior year, I’d have to sit out my junior season,” Brinck said. “The team understood my decision, and I came back for them…I really love those girls.”
Upon her return, Brinck was focused on how she could most effectively be plugged into the team. This meant making some adjustments and competing in different events then she had been the last time she was in the pool.
“I was really unsure about what I wanted to swim when I came back. Before my break I was mid-to-long distance, and when I came back I got into sprinting,” Brinck said. “My main focus at state was the relays.”
The renewed focus paid off for Brinck and the Eagles, as she finished 14th in the 100 yard freestyle and was part of the 12th-place 200 yard free relay and the 14th-place 400 free relay.
Brinck had plenty of fun moments away from the pool, too.
During a team pasta party hosted at her house, Brinck and her teammates decided to take their fandom for the movie “Pitch Perfect” to another level.
“We decided to all learn the ‘Cup song’ from the movie,” Brinck said. “It sounds really cool when you have a lot of people doing it at the same time.”
Brinck will not continue her swimming career into college, but she will continue to be very busy. She will attend Drury University in the fall where she plans on double majoring in Spanish and Biology.

Song on your iPod you are ashamed of: I definitely have the song that they sing in the movie Tangled when they finally fall in love called "I See the Light." I'm not necessarily ashamed that it's on there, just ashamed of how much I listen to it. Cartoon musicals are my weakness and Tangled is the best!
