Nixa offense too much for Willard

The Nixa Lady Eagles defeated the Willard Lady Tigers 6-1 in a COC Large matchup, improving to a record of 17-3. Sophomore Alyson Galler stepped up as a leader for the Lady Eagles’ offense, putting three goals on the board.

Lindsay Owens scored the Lady Tigers’ only goal in the last seconds of the first half. The Lady Eagles led 2-1 at the half and ran away with four more goals in the second half.

Lady Eagles coach Evan Palmer was concerned about his team’s fatigue after playing five games in the past five days.

“Coming in, I was really worried because the girls were so tired. For them to come out against a great team like Willard and do what we did was just fantastic. We have such a great team. I just love these girls,” said Palmer.

The Lady Eagles’ Paige Townsend scored in the 6th minute, assisted by Payton DeHart. Townsend assisted Alyson Galler on a goal in the 28th minute.

Galler scored her second goal in the 49th minute, unassisted. Galler broke through the Lady Tigers’ defense and had a clear shot.

“I just dribbled through a couple people and broke away. No one was coming toward me, and I just kept going. If no one’s going to come toward me, I’m going to keep dribbling and take a shot,” said Galler.

Nixa' Payton DeHart placed a shot at the back of the net in the 55th, unassisted.

Galler’s third goal came in the 65th minute, when she leveled a shot through the Lady Tigers’ defenders past the keeper. Daley Townsend scored in the 71st minute, a fitting way to celebrate her 15th birthday.

Lady Tigers’ coach Brad Hornback knew the Lady Eagles would be a tough opponent, and he welcomed the challenge.

“They’re the class team of this area. I told Evan before the game, we’re having a great season, we’re talented—we’re not going to pack it in. We’re going to go toe to toe and see what happens. We played hard,” said Hornback.
