Central's Mary Maerz verbals to MSU volleyball

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Central High School junior Mary Maerz has given her verbal commitment to play volleyball at Missouri State in 2014.

"I chose MSU because it has a fantastic volleyball program with great players and coaches, and an awesome competetive atmosphere," said Maerz.  "MSU has a great film program that I am interested in."

"Mary is a well-rounded player and an even better young woman," said Central head coach Molly Illum.  "She works hard in practice and games and is extremely dedicated to her team and the Central Volleyball program."
The 6'0" outside hitter registered 280 kills in 616 attempts last season for the 25-6-1 Lady Bulldogs.  Maerz, who was a 1st team all-district selection,  also racked up 47 aces, 203 digs and 14 blocks.  She was also looking at some Ivy League schools such as Columbia and Penn.

In addition to her outstanding play on the court, Maerz also excels in the classroom, including a 34 ACT score.

"She sets high goals for herself and doesn’t stop, or slow down, until those goals are achieved," said Illum.  "Mary has been an integral part of making our program successful here at Central.  I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to coach her and look forward to what she can accomplish her senior year as she builds towards being a collegiate athlete.”
Maerz can officially sign her national letter of intent later this fall.
