District host Parkview found early success from the free-throw line and ended Central’s season by a score of 73-39 on Tuesday night.

The Vikings defeated the Bulldogs 93-69 a week ago. Parkview’s Erik Durham netted 32 points both nights. Durham made seven out of ten free-throws attempts en route to a 15 point first-half in the rematch.
Parkview jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, leading the Bulldogs 15-6 after five minutes of play.
“Central is a very physical bunch and Coach [Johnson] has them playing tough defense,” said Parkview’s Bill Brown. “Once we got into the bonus we did a nice job from the free-throw line."
Of the Vikings first 15 points, 11 were scored from the charity stripe, though the Parkview offense eventually loosened up and made field goals as the game went on. Sophomore starting guard Autry Acord played a part of this with his 15 point night. He shot 75 percent from beyond the three point arc.
“Autry is a great shooter,” said Brown. “Sometimes when you’re younger as a sophomore, you defer to your upper classmen. We’re finally weaning him from that and he’s starting to shoot the ball – when he’s open, he can make it.”
After the game, Central’s Armando Johnson empathized for his two departing seniors in Tavion Neal (seven points) and Brendon Looney, though he remains optimistic with the efforts of underclassmen D’Angelo Bedell (12 points, three rebounds, one steal) an Bradley Hardin (four points, two rebounds)
“My mind is on those seniors who put in their time, but I’m hoping that these young kids will never be in this situation again down the road,” said Johnson.
The Bulldogs finish with a record of 5-23, while 22-5 Parkview will face Willard in the district final on Thursday Feb. 28 at 7:30 P.M..
