"We’re really excited," said Republic athletic director Greg Garton. "We think Wes is going to be a good addition to our school and our community. He’s a very positive coach who will motivate our kids to give them confidence to be successful."
"It's a great opportunity to work at a place with great facilities, great leaders, a great conference, and to work with Chance Wistrom again," said Beachler, who worked with Wistrom while he was principal at Parkview High School and Beachler was head coach.
Beachler has been a turnaround artist in each of his last three stops in Southwest Missouri, taking Houston, Parkview and most recently Nevada from losing programs to playoff teams.
"With the staff that’s there and the previous coach they have work ethic and fundamentals in place," said Beachler. "We just have to try to convince kids to develop team atmosphere. I don’t know a lot about the team, but I’m going to come in and try and promote the right attitude."
"We feel like he can help make our kids believe that we can turn our program around," said Garton. "He's exceptional in the weight room and I think that's something that all our athletic programs are going to benefit from his knowledge."
Beachler has taken the old school double-wing offense to each of his coaching stops, racking up rushing yards in an offense that rarely counts on passing.
"It’s always intrigued me," said Garton. "People talk about that a lot. It’s different, but after talking to him and understanding that there’s flexibility, it can also be exciting. He’s certainly an expert."
Another of Beachler's strengths is his passion and enthusiasm for developing players in the weight room.
"They've got great facilities, but they’re going to have to get in there and work," said Beachler. "They’ve got to get in and sweat. Believe me, they’ll get the hint real quick. That’s where it’s got to start."
In his final season at Parkview, Beachler was named Ozark Conference Co-Coach of the Year and Springfield Quarterback Club Coach of the Year. He coached at Parkview from 2006-2010 during which his team snapped a school record 58-game losing streak in 2008. Two years later Beachler guided Parkview to its first playoff appearance since 1995.
Republic was 5-6 last season under Thompson, falling to eventual state champion Webb City in the district semifinals.
